Visit to Historical Coffee Farms

Santa Maria Farm, lain in lands by The Monjolinho River, was acquired by Jose Ignacio de Camargo in 1850. His heirs were his children, Major José Inácio de Camargo and  Theodoro Leite de Camargo. Theodore made a huge fortune during the coffee golden age. In 1886 in order to receive the title of Baron of Pinhal during a visit of D. Pedro II, the second and last ruler of the Empire of Brazil, to San Carlos to open the railroad, Theodore began the construction of a large manor as the main house on the Santa Maria Fam. This house was comparable in comfort to the best and most luxurious homes in the country at that time. It was a distinguished construction for being located in a rural area with an urban architecture, as the great palaces of Europe. Even today, after more than one hundred years, visitors can admire its solid structure and fine and elegant lines, which translate the history of the coffee wealth in Brazil.
